This year I’ve been very slack at making plans and goals, so I’ve sort of wobbled through 2011. This past month I’ve felt the pull of those pesky New Year resolutions and a real need to become more goal orientated.
However, you and I both know just how amazingly ineffective resolutions made on 1st January actually are, and they can be all but forgotten by midnight the following day.
I’ve done it many times; sat down and wrote a wonderful list of all the things I would definitely do in the new year. I would be skinny, rich, and.…. actually, perhaps it wasn’t such a big list. Seriously though, I’d write down everything and then feel so overwhelmed I’d never look at it again.
I began thinking that this year I would chunk down, and work on changing just one thing at a time rather than about 20 million things. And I would work in manageable time frames because if I tell myself I need to do something by the end of 2012 I would either leave it to the last possible moment in 2012 or become utterly convinced the world is ending anyway, so why bother?
I had planned on making the time frame sabbat to sabbat but I didn’t feel well last week so couldn’t pull it all together in time. Each month, I’m going to plan the little ‘one thing’s I can change in my life. I’m not even going to pretend to do anything huge as I don’t have the time, and I do know many little things eventually add to a lot!
January’s journal is ready to go. You can download, print and share (personal use only please). There are 25 things I jotted down, which doesn’t even add up to one a day during the month.
I hope you’ll join me on this ‘I can change one thing’ journey. I have a button in the sidebar which you can grab if you’d like (I’d love you to grab it because the more people setting little goals the better!).
It will be amazing to look back during the year to see exactly how far our little things have changed us.

How delightful! Baby steps turn into a grown up highway I think! YAY!
I'm all about setting goals (versus resolutions). For our Yule ritual, we write out something we intend to achieve over the course of the new year. This year, we decided to get very creative/artistic with our affirmative statements of intent/goals for the year. ^.^
Hi Lynn,
what is A4 size? I know A2 is 4 1/4 inches by 5 1/2 inches.
You need to come visit my blog…i have 2 giveaways (yuletide blessings post) and (YULE MAGIC post)…that one mentions you
This is a great idea for making lasting changes.
Thanks for this great plan, wishing you a bright and blessed 2012, Love Hazelxo (Didosdesigns on Twitter)
I love it! I like to set small obtainable goals. I also like to do lists and other tracking things
Blessings for 2012!!
I love this idea! It goes well with my fitness themed blog!
Firstly, must buy ink for printer!
Beautiful idea.
In the words of most excited (pre-grammar-sensible) 5-year-olds, me likes
You are right, dearest Lyn, many times we work so hard on trying to change the whole world that we forget about our precious little selves. So one thing at a time makes absolute sense. I must agree with Serenity, too. This is a lovely idea to team up with her Witchy Fitness Challenge. I will follow her lead and apply your concept to my own witchy life. This means I'll pair (or triple) your Change ONE Thing idea with my writing, my witchery, my schooling, my living…–there are lots of little things I can do to make all of the former better…
I will have to do mine electronically. As you might already know, I save those precious 30 minutes or so I can dedicate to writing with a pen/pencil to school–my shoulder doesn't care for notebook to paper contact *sigh* I'll blog about this in a couple of days, and come back to add the link.
Thanks for a fabulous idea. I hope you are having the loveliest of all Holiday Seasons.
P.S. There is a Witchy Books Reading Challenge that would be way lovelier if you joined in *wink, wink*
This is a great idea Lyn and something I can definitely relate to. Definitely giving this a whirl.
What a great idea! I have linked you on my blog … http://www.backwordswriter.com … And downloaded the journal. Thanks so much for doing this.
You're very welcome and thank you for the link
