Interview with REAL Ghost Hunters

As you probably know if you’ve been following my blog I do enjoy a good ghost story and I’m always on the lookout to visit haunted locations.  Just recently I had the opportunity to interview Steve from a local paranormal investigations group, Shadow Seekers.  He very kindly answered my all my questions on ‘real’ ghost hunters!  Cheers Tina & Steve!!

Tell me what prompted Shadow Seekers to come into existence?

We have all had strange things happen to us over the years that we could not explain, so we decided to look into it further, in the hope of getting some answers but there is still so much that we are learning each time we do an investigation.

How do you approach your investigations? Are you seekers looking for proof, skeptics looking to debunk or somewhere in the middle?

In the middle really, we have our sceptics and believers. We always approach an investigation with an open mind, and try not to jump to conclusions.

From what I understand the nature of paranormal investigation is to find proof. Do you extend your investigation to exorcism/blessings if it’s requested or is that an area which you prefer not to get involved?

We prefer not to get involved in that area as we don’t feel comfortable with exorcisms etc, as we are mainly just looking for proof.

Has the popularity of TV shows such as  Ghost Hunters and Most Haunted given credibility to your job as an investigator or do you feel they sensationalise the work you do?

Programs like Most Haunted etc have made what we do more difficult because people expect us to run around like headless chickens and find ghosts everywhere, but that’s not how it goes.

What’s your typical investigation? How long does it last?

Typical investigation lasts around 8 – 9 hours. We hold hold vigils in various areas of the location, and do experiments, we also set up cameras and do EVP work, but..there is a lot of tedious sitting around waiting for something to happen, but its worth it even if we only get one thing happen.

What’s been, to date, the most memorable investigation you’ve been on?

One of the most memorable was at the Ancient Ram Inn (read report in the reports section on our site, it was such a strange night!).

Have you ever been scared on an investigation – and if so share the details!

We have never really been scared, but sometimes you can get quite unnerved by certain ares of a place.

What evidence have you captured so far?

We have numerous fascinating EVPs (Priddy’s Hard scream on audio section of our site, to mention just one), and several interesting videos (ie Sue at Wymering Manor, on our site too).

I noticed you use a lot of electrical equipment. Do you also use non electrical, more mystical means to detect the presence of the supernatural?

Yes we do.   Sue our main sensitive and Victoria are very good at sensing things that turn out to be correct. They also use dowsing rods and pendulums. We always know that something or someone is about as Sue’s nose starts to twitch (as she calls it) and she’s always right.

If so, what’s the more reliable? And do the two corroborate each other?

They can work well together, but the most effective is the sensing because its like using a bloodhound to take you to the correct areas.

Regarding EVPs what’s the best message received to date?

We have not had messages as such, but have have had names said after asking, and answers to our questions. The best one to date is still the scream at Priddy’s Hard Explosion Museum.

If there’s one place you could do an investigation where would it be and why?

We all feel very privileged to have investigated all of the places that we have been to, we would like to do more theatres as they can be very interesting.

What words of advice can you give to reader who would like to get involved in paranormal investigations?

We would advise anyone who is interested in becoming a paranormal investigator to keep an open mind as so many things can be explained. Please respect the places that you visit. We have seen the mess that some groups leave behind. Go out with a camera , take photos of places. Always ask permission if necessary. Join a respected group, and enjoy it.

And finally, where can readers find more about Shadow Seekers?

I love the show Ghost Hunters. I have a real issue with most haunted because they seem to think everything is a ghost, it appears faked at times, they get too freaked out, and they have some negative feelings about witches. This group you interviewed seems more sane like the original TAPS team (Jason and Grant).
The scream was weird- did they make sure it wasn’t someone moving furniture near the speaker? Like dragging a chair?
I’ve loved the TAPS shows where they do catch an EVP or a shadow.
    Fun!

    • Hi
Thanks for your comments. Regarding the scream, there were no chairs or furniture in the area at all as it is an empty brick building. We were just talking as normal with the recorder placed near by. We heard absolutely nothing at the time otherwise we would have commented. If we hear a noise we always say that we have heard it wether it was made by us or other sources. Thanks again so much for your kind comments , from Tina and Steve.
