I’ve received a cry for help – for a cow! I’m a big fan of cows (another thing that borders on obsession) but don’t know enough about what could help in this situation. Can you help? Leave a comment so Anne can pick up your suggestions.
Here’s the request!
Does anyone have an idea what best ointment to use on cows?
There is a farm that really takes care of it’s cows and I’ve been asked to come up with something that’s healing, natural, hopefully organic for cuts and pecks on this cow that simply won’t defend herself against crows!…just found out that birds LOOOve to peck Cows just above their tails and most cows defend themselves easily with swift movements of the heads, but this one just won’t, and the bandages are awkwardly placed and she along with the rest are not slaughter cows so there out majority of the time in lush fields. I think an ointment based product but lavender will just increase the insects etc which she doesnt need.
Can anyone help me???

There’s an ointment called “Bag Balm”, in case they don’t have it where you are, thought I’d send you the website addy:

Hope it helps to moooo the cow along, I know bad pun ; )
Hi, Thanks for that,
I will certainley tell the owners about this im sure ive heard of bag balm before, and they might already know..Thanks again
Could try Aloe vera. Clove oil is supposed to be good at repelling flies (not direct application on sore skin). Perhaps the owner could try putting a clay/mud plaster over the area, which would keep the nasty bugs off and give the poor cow chance to heal.
why not neosporin or another triple antibiotic? It works on dogs and people. I don’t know what to do about repeling bugs unless it includes avon’s skin so soft or some other bug repellent
Definitely go with the bag balm if you can! I grew up on a farm and we used it on pretty muach any scrape or abbrasion the cows got. Not to mention all of ours, and now all of my kid’s and grandkids too. I actually use it as a base for some healing balms. Bloody crows!! Maybe adding some borage to the cow’s food to make her bolder. If your cow wears a collar with a bell the noise might help keep the crows from staying around , and maybe even one of those funny little bouncy wire toys attached to the collar at the back of the neck.
Maybe this will help:

they mention aloe vera, hydrogen peroxide, tea tree oil, calendula and other things for skin and healing. I am an avid cow lover, (but I do not eat them.) Hope this helps. ♥
I dont know if I am posting twice, having some ‘puter problems, but this link has some skin info on the first page of the file:
