I’ve been keeping my eye on the news lately. To be more exact, I’ve been checking Google news alerts for any mention of crop circles. One day a few months ago, quite out of the blue, I asked on Twitter if anyone had seen a crop circle. Through this tweet I was fortunate to talk to a lovely lady who had witnessed a circle in the States (not like the ones we’re used to seeing this side of the pond) and have a man dig through his shed to find me photos of a crop circle he saw near Guildford in the ’90s.
And today I saw my very first crop circle. In fact, it is apparently the very first one in the UK for crop circle season 2010.
Without having a small plane or helicopter at my disposal (yet) I took these photos from Old Sarum which is a hill fort with 5,000 years of history (I’m sure that will be another outing and blog post!!).

A different angle – there were lots of ravens flying about (but no UFOs).

This is the field with the crop circle in it. Those little dark blobs in the photo, just to left of centre, are people walking around the circle.

And this is a scary little being I encountered:

It was difficult to make out the shape of the circle when in the middle of it. The rapeseed was bent at the base to make the symbol but there was so much yellow you couldn’t really make out what was bent and what wasn’t.
I’m not sure I’m hooked on crop circles yet. I don’t have a definite view on whether they’re hoaxes or not. What do you think?
