Stonehenge and Beltane Blessings

Published on May 1, 2009, by in Confessions.

Even though it’s Beltane (May Day) today I hadn’t really planned very much.  When I got up this morning I thought I’d probably spend some time out in the garden and reflect on the spirit of the holiday.

My first blessing of the day came when I went to the freezer and found some frozen raspberries.  I’d forgotten they were there so I had, all of a sudden, a great ingredient to make some muffins.  Haven’t made them yet but the raspberries are defrosted and that’s a start.

Then I was on Twitter where I saw someone mention spending Beltane at Stonehenge.  That just resonated with me so that’s where I spent the day.

And here are the photos:

We just missed a hand fasting ceremony.  I haven’t seen a May Pole since I accidently got tied to one a long time ago.  It was COMPLETELY innocent!

You can’t see it here but these people were the drummers.  Fantastic!

The hand fasting ceremony was moving on out as we got there.  There were loads of people at Stonehenge but, as you can see, it’s possible to photograph the stones without the people.  Priceless. And for everything else, there’s Photoshop ;-)

Ahem.  Bird on stone.

Paul.  We almost went on one of our first dates to Stonehenge.  I say almost because I couldn’t find it.  In my defence it was before SatNav.  And it’s not like you can see those huge stones from the road, right?

A very kind American couple offered to take our photo.  So, here we are.

Isn’t it wonderful?

A closer look.  Love my camera zoom.

And that’s what Tabitha thought of Stonehenge.

Beautiful.

These ladies had taken part of the ceremony and were waiting outside when we finished looking around.  Don’t they look stunning?

And this gentleman is a newly initiated bard who very kindly posed for me.  Now, how many people can say that?
